I once again reminded students of the second Saturday Study Session on February 7, and I asked them to start signing up and to let me know if they needed to ride the bus. Then we talked some more about equity and the dominant culture, first connecting it to some of our reading from last semester, and then beginning to think about how to research it for the paper. We went over the details of the research assignment, students did a scavenger hunt to review MLA format, and then they began looking for academic journals to read and help them narrow down the topic and scope of their papers. Homework: read and annotate through the end of ch. 12 (p. 80 in my copy of the novel) by Monday.
