Students started class by writing small/medium/large questions for today’s seminar while I checked their sources and annotations. Then we held our Socratic seminar about Ahmed Mohamed and his clock. Students responded to the following reflection prompt in class:
- Imagine you are a student at Ahmed’s school. How would you feel about how this situation played out? The aftermath and public perception?
- What is your opinion about whether he should return to your school? How the staff handled this situation?
- What does your community do to move forward in a positive way?
After seminar, we talked more in-depth about appeals and began looking for them in the Benjamin Banneker prompt from 2010. Homework: first-fourth annotations in your independent novels are due on Monday.
