After going over the details of Poem #1 again (A2, B6), students completed one pre-writing exercise from the Burroway text at the start of class, and then students spent 15–20 minutes extending one to two exercises from the previous three weeks in their journals. Then they reviewed yesterday’s reading about abstractions, generalizations, and judgments, and then read more in Burroway about concrete, specific details — and more importantly, the intersection of the two groups. Students then completed the “More Imagery in Chosen Poems” assignment in Google Classroom. Most finished this, though it’s not due until 11:59 tonight. Anyone who did finish early began work on Poem 1 in Classroom. Homework: finish the “More Imagery” assignment; continue thinking about Poem #1.
This class will be an opportunity for you to express yourself creatively through writing. You will get a chance to try many different genres of writing and practice the writing process. You will get to help others improve their writing, and the favor will be returned to you with your own writing. By the end of the class, you will develop a portfolio of your best, most polished work.
Note: I teach two sections of this class on different days. When possible, I will use the same entry for both Red and Gold days. When impossible, I will post a separate summary for each day.
