I led students through some pre-writing exercises to practice creating metaphors from objects exercise; these exercises, along with the personification activity from last Thursday, could easily turn themselves into Poem 2 or 3. We quickly went over musical sounds of poetry before reading an example of a poem with strict form. We spent a lot of time looking at the patterns in this type of poem, and then students played around with creating their own versions of a Shakespearean sonnet. Homework: do some thinking and pre-writing on your own about Poem #2 and #3
