After collecting the annotated copies of The Most Dangerous Game students completed for homework, we knocked out most of the remaining Bio Bag presentations at the start of class — only students who have excused absencces will present next week. Next, students attempted to fill out the Elements of Plot handout with what they remember from middle school, and then we went over notes on plot to fill in the gaps. We returned copies of TMDG, and students worked on identifying different elments of plot in groups through additional annotations. At the very end of class, every student logged in to Infinite Campus to check his or her grades. Homework: complete identifying your plot elements on your copy of the story if you did not in class.
This class is an opportunity for students to develop and practice their skills in reading and analysis of literature as well as writing. Our various texts will be the vehicles through which they will hone their critical thinking abilities, and our writing exercises will be an outlet of expression for these abilities. We will be reading poetry, short fiction, novels, and dramatic texts. Our objectives are to master the elements of literature, practice the writing process, and improve organization of writing.
