Students helped us learn their names, and then we talked about the policy on personal electronic devices for the year, and then signed up for Remind.com reminders. Each class has a separate code/login page: B6, B7, B8. Next week, I will check to see who has signed up and will give you a grade for doing so (and a zero if you fail to). We also went over the course norms for this semester and next. At the end of class, we started talking about our review of public speaking skills, and I presented my demonstration Bio Bag. Homework: show the course norms handout to your parents and get the signature slip signed for next class.
This class is an opportunity for students to develop and practice their skills in reading and analysis of literature as well as writing. Our various texts will be the vehicles through which they will hone their critical thinking abilities, and our writing exercises will be an outlet of expression for these abilities. We will be reading poetry, short fiction, novels, and dramatic texts. Our objectives are to master the elements of literature, practice the writing process, and improve organization of writing.
